The development of new affordable homes in Sowerby...

20th September, 2025.

The completion of 64 new affordable homes in the village of Sowerby, near Thirsk, has been welcomed by local MP, providing much-needed affordable options for local residents.

Kevin Hollinrake MP visited the new homes off Back Lane with colleagues from Karbon Homes, the housing association behind the development, and its construction partner T Manners & Sons.

Kevin commended the design of the development, with a mix of both homes for rent and homes available under affordable home ownership schemes Rent to Buy and Shared Ownership, designed to help those wanting to take their first step on the property ladder.

Kevin said: “As former Shadow Housing Minister, I understand the critical importance of increasing the supply of high-quality, affordable homes to support communities like Sowerby.

“This development by Karbon Homes, with its thoughtful mix of rental and ownership options, exemplifies empowering individuals through homeownership while ensuring sustainable, community-focused growth.”

The new homes consist of a mix of bungalows and two, three and four-bed family houses. With support from Leeds-based QAD Architects, the homes have been designed with traditional architectural styles and local detailing, ensuring that the development complements the character of the nearby conservation area.
